It’s time to take care of Mother Nature, just as she takes care of us.

Fashion currently accounts for over 10% of global carbon emissions and nearly 20% of wastewater. Truth be told, the fashion industry is currently sucking up more energy than the aviation and shipping sectors combined. Yep, we know, it’s a lot.

As we set our hearts on protecting Mother Nature and really honing in on becoming a more sustainable brand, we’ve put together the ultimate guide on ways you can reduce your fashion footprint. From buying from sustainable brands (like us) to giving your bank card a break and splashing out less, doing your bit to protect our beautiful planet is easier than you might think.

How to reduce your fashion footprint

What is a fashion footprint?

Let’s set one thing straight, we’ve all got a fashion footprint. If we didn’t, we probably wouldn’t be wearing any clothes, right? Your fashion footprint is a rough estimation of your environmental impact on the earth based on flight emissions.

How to reduce your fashion footprint

Girls, it’s time we got serious about protecting Mother Nature. Your fashion footprint can easily be reduced by making small changes to your fashion habits.

Here’s a few things you can do to reduce your fashion footprint and stay in control of your fashion environmental impact.

1. Buy less

We know it’s easier said than done (especially on pay day) but sometimes buying even the most greenest and most sustainable of products still requires production and transport to your home.

We agree, new clothes always make us happy, but instead of buying on impulse, ask yourself: Do I really need this? Or, try a capsule wardrobe. That way, you can reuse and recycle new tops, bottoms, shirts, jackets, dresses and more and pair them with other bits you would never have otherwise considered - the possibilities are endless!

2. Buy from sustainable brands

In other words, us!

Currently, half of our underwear collection contains sustainable properties. By the end of 2022, it’ll be 90%. That means more Lounging with Mother Nature at heart and more Comfort Made Sexy, But Conscious.

3. Think twice before throwing anything away

Girls, nothing hurts more than throwing clothes away. We know the urge can be even stronger after a new wardrobe refresh. Sadly, a lot of our clothes contain harmful fabrics that are damaging to the environment with non-biodegradable fibres and synthetics. Instead, try one of the following:

  • Try to repair your clothes
  • Consider donating them
  • Put your clothes in a local textile recycling bin

4. Wash your clothes on a lower heat

If you’ve read our Underwear Care page, you’ll know all too well that we’re all for washing at lower temperatures. Why? Not only does washing at lower temperatures protect your most delicate pieces, it also protects Mother Nature too!

Washing on a high heat requires a lot of energy consumption. There are also a few more things you can do to reduce your energy consumption when washing your best bits:

  • Consider washing full loads
  • Use eco-friendly detergent
  • Don’t tumble dry unless you absolutely have to
  • Air dry your clothes and underwear where possible

5. Only buy items that you love and will use

We’re all guilty of splashing out on the odd occasion and besides, what’s the use in buying something if you’re only going to leave it at the bottom of your wardrobe with the price tag still on?

Only buy items that you love and you’re certain you will use. This is one of the best ways to protect Mother Nature (and your bank balance).
