Inside Lounge is back again! And this time, we’re talking about all things Creative Design.

We love showering our Loungers with endless Lounge love and appreciation. After all, we wouldn’t be the UK’s Fastest Growing Fashion Brand without their incredible hard work and commitment.

Thanks to our Loungers and their all-consuming dedication and passion about becoming the world’s biggest and best underwear brand, we’ve welcomed so many more Loungers to be part of our journey this year. Perhaps we can inspire you too?

Whether you’re keen to find out how you can land your dream role or just want an exclusive sneak peek into our incredible HQME, we’re here to spill the tea.

To give you all the insider exclusives, we caught up with Dre, one of our Creative Designers, who originally joined the team as an intern back in October 2020. Read more below.

Inside Lounge: Creative Designer

Tell us all about you, your role at Lounge and what your day to day is like.

I’ve been a creative at Lounge for almost a year now, and it has definitely been one of the best years of my life. Not only am I surrounded by the best people, but I’m constantly faced with new and exciting challenges and experiences that have helped me grow and develop as a designer.

My role very much involves putting my creative cap ON and designing lots of visuals for the brand, whether that’s Instagram stories, TikToks, email designs or advertisements.

Generating new ideas is also a key part of my role. At Lounge, we’re constantly thinking of new, exciting concepts for campaign shoots, social content and so much more! We like to go BIG with our ideas, so I really like to take time out of my day or week to sit down and have a really good brainstorm - although, a lot of my best ideas come to me in the shower.

As well as creating visuals, I spend a lot of time researching existing content and trends for inspiration, as well as drinking lots of coffee. It’s great because every single day I’m able to be as creative as I want. The limits are endless.

That one time when Dre made Lounge go viral...

How did you land your dream role?

I graduated from university last year - yep, I’m a pandemic student! After graduating, I was constantly applying for lots of different jobs in design, although nothing really caught my attention, until I saw the Creative Designer role at Lounge.

After doing some research into the brand and seeing the team’s dynamic, I knew I wanted to be a Lounger. I put together a digital portfolio and submitted my application. Whilst going through the interview process, the job I originally applied for had already been filled. However, the Lounge team really loved my work and invited me for an interview at their HQ, where I was offered a six-month internship.

Throughout my internship I was really able to grow as a designer and understand what life is like post-graduation. Not only did I learn a tremendous amount about design, but also about the working world. Following my six-month internship, I was offered a full time role as a Creative Designer.

 Lounge HQ: Meet Dre

What made you want to work for Lounge?

There were a lot of things that made me want to work for Lounge. I share a lot of the values that Lounge stands for, so that was a big factor for me. The biggest factor was the team itself. Getting to know the Lounge team throughout the interview process and seeing all of their Lounger/HQ content on LinkedIn not only gave me the reassurance that I’d be a great fit, but it also made the office dynamic seem much more exciting.

The rate at which the brand is growing has really inspired and motivated me to grow and be a part of its huge success. A year on and I’ve already been part of some of the brand’s biggest moments and milestones, including the 5th Birthday Sale and hitting two million followers on Instagram.

What was the interview process like?

The interview process was a lot of fun! It gave me a great opportunity to showcase my creativity and personality, as well as getting to know the team more.

For my interview, I was asked to design some TikToks, an email, a collection of Instagram Stories and plan a campaign for International Women’s Day. I was also asked to produce a “Wow” project, which showcased my personality. For this, I created a starter kit full of silly Amazon products to become ‘More Like Dre’. The whole process was a lot of fun and felt less like an interview and more like a chat with the team.

Lounge Underwear: Meet The Team

What are three essential skills or traits you need as a Creative Designer?

Attention to detail, craziness and confidence.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Lounge?

It absolutely has to be the people. I’m surrounded by such incredible people which makes coming to work feel like hanging out with friends. I’m so grateful because everyone at Lounge inspires and motivates me every single day.

What has been your favourite campaign to date and why?

There’s SO many! But a campaign which sits close to my heart is our Lounge-In Apparel campaign. This was my first big project that I worked on alone. I was given free reign to come up with the concept, pitch the idea, plan the shoot and design the campaign video.

I had full control over how things would look and it really taught me so much about creative leadership, design techniques, creative softwares and so much more.

I also have to mention the 5th Birthday Sale campaign, as it was so much fun to work on - I loved it!

Meet Dre, Lounge's Creative DesignerDo you have any words of advice for aspiring Loungers who want to join the team?

Be authentic. Show us your true colours and personality - the crazier the better!

I’d also say for students who are graduating soon and wanting to join Lounge, experience is key. Even if it’s a week's placement or freelance work, showing us you have gone out and found some sort of experience is a great way to get one step ahead.

Finally, describe yourself in three words.

Caring, outgoing and EXTRA!

Feel inspired? Bring the fire, talent and all the craziness that makes you, you.
