Uneven Boobs: Your Questions Answered

A lot of things come in matching sets, like our classic Balcony Collection, for example. However, your breasties aren’t always one of them.

We’ve all been there - standing in front of the mirror fully naked, hands on hips, wondering why one boob is bigger than the other. You thought it was just you? Well, we’re here to tell you that you definitely aren’t alone.

By now, we all know the drill with breast shapes. Now, it’s time to get to grips with uneven boobs. Keep on reading to discover everything you need to know about breast asymmetry and what causes it.

Why is one breast bigger than the other?

IS IT NORMAL FOR BREASTS TO BE UNEVEN?

In most cases, yes. We aren’t airbrushed, photoshopped, symmetrical images, we’re human which means we tend to be beautifully uneven.

WHY IS ONE BREAST BIGGER THAN THE OTHER?

Breast asymmetry is very common and affects more than half of all women. There are several reasons why a woman's breasts can change in size or volume, including trauma, puberty and hormonal changes.

CAUSES OF ASYMMETRICAL BOOBS

We're here to give you the lowdown on what causes breast asymmetry and why you should love your breasties, regardless of shape or size.

1. PREGNANCY

Breasts may become uneven during pregnancy, but this is totally normal. Some women find that their breasts grow larger or sometimes become lopsided as the body prepares for breastfeeding. It’s pretty amazing what the human body can do, girls. You might even notice your breasts change in shape post-partum.

2. ATYPICAL DUCTAL HYPERPLASIA

Atypical what now? It's a mouthful, we know, but every day is a school day, Loungers.

Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia (ADH) is a condition that affects your breast tissue cells - this occurs when the milk ducts in your breasts have excessive growth. If you have ADH, you may notice that you have asymmetrical boobs due to harmless breast lumps that can affect the shape and size of your breasts. Remember, ADH is not something to worry about. It's just your way of being unique.

3. HYPOPLASTIC BREASTS

Hypoplastic or underdeveloped breasts can be small, spaced far apart or slightly uneven. Your nipples might even appear slightly larger, but that's what makes you, you! Hormones can sometimes play a role in this, but it can also happen due to various medical conditions. One boob bigger than the other

WHEN SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT MY UNEVEN BOOBS?

Uneven breasts aren't usually something you need to worry about, Loungers. The role between breast asymmetry and breast cancer is still largely misunderstood, so try not to panic. Whether your breasts are big, small, uneven or not, you're beautiful just how you are. Think of them as sisters, not twins!

That being said, if you do notice that your boobs significantly change in size or shape, make sure you check in with your doctor. Remember, if in doubt, get it checked out! Only you know your normal.

Speaking of boobs, are you due a check in? Remember, you should be feeling for any abnormalities at least once a month, every month.
