Using colour theory to discover what will make you pop

At Lounge, we believe lingerie should not only be comfort made sexy, but also fun. That’s why we have a huge range of styles, materials and colours so that no matter the occasion, preference or design you’re looking for - we’ve got it.

From bright blues to sultry reds, the number of colours and shades available to choose from can sometimes be overwhelming. Although, we know our Loungers can pull off any colour (no matter what you might think!), sometimes we may want to choose underwear that will really bring out our undertones and make our skin pop. So, our experts have used colour theory to help you find the perfect colour of lingerie for whatever you want to stand out.

What is colour theory?

Commonly used by designers, colour theory is the rules and guidelines for colour mixing and finding colours that complement each other. Searches for colour theory have been steadily increasing over recent years and #colourtheory has reached 1.4 billion TikTok views. This has been used in the make-up space for years, but at Lounge, we wanted to bring colour science to the world of underwear.

Colour holds the power to bring out our best features, lift our mood and make us feel empowered. Colour theory allows us to choose colours based on our undertones - creating the perfect match for our skin tones - and what better way than to do that with your lingerie?

How do I find out my undertone?

There are multiple methods you can use to decipher the undertone of your skin. Here are a few quick ways to discover whether you’re warm, cool, or neutral.

  • The vein method - look at the veins on your wrist, are they more blue or green? For veins that appear more blue, this suggests a cool undertone. If you see more green then you have a warm undertone. If your veins don’t particularly stand out or blend in with your skin then this would mean you have a neutral undertone.

  • The paper method - holding up a white sheet of paper to your face (making sure you’re wearing no make-up), you can see how your skin reacts next to see it. Do you see a blueish or pinkish tone? Then you probably have warm undertones. If you see more of a yellow shade then you likely have cool undertones.
